Green tea delight!

Finally, I got a chance to make the cupcakes I've been eyeing since I first got VCTOTW: Green tea cupcakes. Actually, my closest girl friend came over and we made these together--a double batch. I had so many people to share these with, I didn't want to take a chance on not making enough. Aren't they cute? We made marzipan hearts to go on top, and as I looked at them I realized that they would have fit in nicely on Valentine's day. Oh well.

The frosting is such a pretty green from the matcha green tea powder... and this means that the green tea flavor is there too. On Friday night a couple of my friends and I went out for sushi, and afterwards we came back to my apartment for cupcakes. What better way to end a sushi meal than with a green tea dessert?

These cupcakes are the best so far, and I daresay they will be hard to compete with. The ingredients are a bit on the pricey side, though, so these will have to be reserved for special occasions from now on. But try them, if you get a chance--you won't be disappointed!

I have purposely NOT purchased that book. Maybe someday I will.. I never though I liked cupcakes or cake or other desserts until I started making vegan ones. Now I like them too much.

They look amazing though!

Wow, they look great, I love the little hearts on them. I'm going to have to track down some matcha powder to make a batch (or 2).

I've been meaning to make these--I love green tea and anything flavored with it. The <3s are an adorable touch.

Oooh they look good. I like the picture with the book haha. How did you make the marzipan? That has almonds right?

How pretty! You guys rolled out the marzipan hearts yourselves- so cool! (and I love marzipan)
I have to try these. I have a little tin of matcha in my cupboard, and since it's expensive as you mentioned, I guard it with my life! =)

I also like green tea flavor. The cupcakes look wonderful with the little red hearts.

Melody, I know what you mean... I avoided that book for the longest time, and now that I have it I love using it but I almost never eat an entire cupcake--I give most of them away.

Caty, I found matcha powder at an Asian supermarket in town... maybe you have one near you that you can try?

UV, I love green tea too... Is it still healthy when it's in a cupcake? Hee hee.

Tania, marzipan is a paste made out of sugar and ground almonds. I didn't make the marzipan--I wish I was that good! I found it on the baking aisle at the health food store--it came in a tube shape like those slice and bake cookies (yuck).

Bazu, the marzipan made a sticky pink mess! LOL. But it was worth it. This is a good recipe to splurge on with your matcha powder! ;)

Brooke, thanks!

Jackie, thanks for the comment about the hearts. They actually came out redder than I intended--it's difficult to add just a "drop" of food coloring!

Hi Laura

I am 100% better now, and since I can taste things again- I can properly drool over your cute cupcakes.

I need to go get that book and get with the baking program.

These look so cute and amazing. I remember seeing this recipe and wondering what green tea powder was/how much it costs.

Laura, those look so good!! I love how you photographed the cupcake with the cover of the recipe book. That's a nice touch. That's awesome you made a double batch so a bunch of others could partake. Sweet.

those cuppers look great laura!
I just worked with marzipan for the first time when I made those little pink pigs... and I know what you mean about how hard it is to get a subtle color job! my piggies turned out bright pink!

Wow, what a great job decorating those perfect cupcakes. I'm going to go check out the recipe right now. Thanks for the tip about buying the tea at the asian market.

VKO, I'm so glad that you're feeling better!

Kate, matcha is just a powdered green tea that is used as an ingredient in different types of foods. It's kind of expensive--I paid about $7 for a small tin of it at an Asian grocery. But the recipe doesn't call for a whole lot of the stuff, and even after making two batches I still have some left over. It's worth the splurge, if you ask me.

Kleo, I wish I could just make cupcakes for everyone all the time--I love cooking for people (and making drinks for them). The idea of opening my own bakery/pastry shop is sounding nicer and nicer.

Amey, I remember your marzipigs--they were very vibrant but adorable nonetheless! I found the marzipan to be a little tough to work with, at least to roll out flat for cut-outs. Maybe I should try sculpting with it. :)

Vicki, thanks! Now I think I'm inspired to try to make green tea ice cream--another perfect end to sushi.

Diann, I hope you are able to try them and like them!

Thanks for the advice, Laura. I decided to just by-pass blogger and re-load all the pictures from flickr (into a new post) and the problem seems to be solved... I still hate blogger!

Your cupcakes look so good. I have not bought the book because I won't be able to stop making and eating cupcakes. I check this jewel out from the library. There is a waiting list so all the vegans in my town take turns. At least that helps the waist line. Your cupcakes have just convinced me to put my name back on the list.

Oooh...they’re gorgeous! I think the marzipan hearts are lovely!

Bazu, I hope that fixes your problem! :(

Veg-a-nut, that actually sounds like a great arrangement. As it is, I am trying to keep the cupcake evidence away from MY waist line!

Scottish vegan, thanks! The picture in the cookbook of these cuppers struck me as the most gorgrous photo in the whole book... Mine aren't as pretty as those but they're more me, I think. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Laura, these are beautiful! I have been wanting to make this exact recipe myself - it looks like the best in the book to me!! I bought the matcha powder (wooo! expensive!) and will make these someday soon now that I know they taste as good as they sound!!

Candi, I felt the same way when I went through this book--these by far were the most appealing! I hope you like them as much as I do!
